Ms. Lopez,
Hello! I am putting together a paper for an art history class at the University of New Mexico and was hoping that I could talk to you (via e-mail) personally about your artwork and the controversy surrounding your piece "Our Lady". Personally, I loved the piece and couldn't quite understand what all the hullabaloo was about.
Thank you so much for your time!

Thank you so much for helping me out with my research project. I really appreciate it. I've had time to think of questions I'd like you to answer if you could.

What inspired your artwork concerning the Virgin?
How has the figure of the Virgin affected or influenced your life?
What do you think of the "traditional" religious depictions of women?
What are your views on women in Latina/o culture, in the Church, and in the U.S. society?
What inspires your artwork in general?
What are your feelings about the controversy that your artwork of the Virgin has caused within the religious community?
What were your some of your experiences growing up in LA that has influenced your artwork?
What does your family say about your artwork, specifically about the Virgin?
How do you stay strong when the Catholic church is attacking your artwork?
Do you think there are too many sexual taboos projected onto "saintly women" and women in general?

Okay there are my questions and whenever you've had a chance to think about them then email me and we can set up a time to do the phone interview. Once again thank you for being so generous with your time.
Sincerely,
Bernadette Hernandez
