Subject: Apoyo a su obra

Quito, 4 de julio de 2003

Estimada Alma:

Atentamente,
Luis Eguiguren.

I am having trouble understanding the point of this painting anyway.
The Virgin appeared with a message that was powerful and meaningful to the Indians of the time. It transformed their way of worship. For better or worse at least there were no more human sacrifices. Why is it so important these days to sexualize everything? What is the point. The media and now the fine arts have turned this country into a trivial community of oversexed mental retards that can't distinguish between salvation and invasion in other countries. In the name of freedom we drop bombs killing thousands of innocents.
In the name of group identity, we take a sexualized cholita and substitute her or for the image of the Virgin of Guadalupe. Hey, what's wrong with nuestra madre India. Isn't she good enough. And we don't need anymore over sexualized cholitas having babies and doing drugs instead of getting an education. Get real!
